Book Review: Stalking Jack the Ripper by Keri Maniscalco

Another post from me? Yes! I have read some books over the last few months that I haven’t reviewed yet! I will admit, I have read less this year than I would like. But I am still reading. Hopefully that counts for something. Anyhow, here is a review of one of the best books I have had the pleasure of reading.

Stalking Jack the Ripper
Title: Stalking Jack the Ripper
Author: Kerri Maniscalco
Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord’s daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father’s wishes and society’s expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle’s laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

The story’s shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this dazzling debut from author Kerri Maniscalco impossible to forget.

This is it. This is the book I have been missing all of my life. I am late to the Stalking Jack the Ripper party but I am glad I finally have arrived.

This has everything I love in a book. Victorian England, a bantering. intelligent, handsome man, gore, cadavers, science, medicine, mystery, murder… I mean what more could my heart want!

We have Audrey Rose (perfect name btw) who is a lady in old society who is frowned upon for having her hands knee deep in a cadaver. If I was in her shoes I would totally be doing the same thing. I know what you may be thinking, morbid a little Crystal? Maybe so, but I have loved medicine and science since I started reading text books. Audrey is the perfect main character. She isn’t shallow. She is stubborn, hard headed, and determined. Then we have the oh so swoon worthy Thomas Cresswell. Guess what? He is my new book bae. Surprised? Probably not. He is like a younger Sherlock Holmes and I am LIVING for it. He wouldn’t have to tell me twice to run away with him to the cadaver lab.

If you didn’t read the synopsis, Audrey and Thomas along with her uncle and the police department are trying to find the serial killer who is brutally murdering women in England. It gives your imagination a whirl on solving who Jack the Ripper really was.

This isn’t for the faint of heart. It goes into detail on some of the gore and blood. I love it. It gives this story the perfect touch of what we could really expect in a lab and on a murder scene.

The ending is WOW. The reveal is shocking. I had a thought about it during the whole book but it still through me for a loop. I already have Hunting Prince Dracula in my hands. I can’t wait to explore the world of Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell again.

Rating: 5/5 stars
