Book Review: The Wicked King by Holly Black

Another book review? Two in one month? What is this sorcery Crystal? Yes, guys you have read that right. Another book review from yours truly. Which means I am reading more, YAY! I have been working hard on getting my shop together for opening day so I have been pretty absent here. I will try to make some more post as soon as I can, hopefully.

The first part of this review will be spoiler free as normal. BUT the bottom half will have spoilers because I have to get out ALL of my feelings.

The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2)
Title: The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air #2)
Author: Holly Black
After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.

When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

-I actually like all the characters this time around. Except for Taryn. She most likely won’t redeem herself from book one.
-I am in love with Cardan. Gosh, he is such a smart elect, a handsome, wicked king. I love his antics. Scoot over Rhysand, we have another bad boy in my life.
-I truly love Elfhame. The land of Faerie is never boring.
-We get to see a touch of the Undersea and I loved it. Holly did such a wonderful job with detail here that I truly was a little afraid.
-And of course, ENEMIES TO LOVERS! Ah. Jude and Cardan, you guys are killing my heart.
-The ending made you want more. WHERE ARE YOU NOVEMBER? I MAY JUST DIE BETWEEN THEN AND NOW? I want to know how this series ends more than any other.

-The ending infuriated me. But also I was exhilarated? That my friends may just be a pro overall. Maybe?
-Jude did aggravate me from time to time. I can see her point of view though? Maybe?
-Even though I was furious there may be no more cons to this story.

THE ENDING GUYS. THE ENDING. I truly thought Jude and Cardan was actually about to start getting a long but NO. At first, I was so mad at Cardan. Then I thought I actually don’t blame him. Jude has been horrible to him. Only want to control power. But I can also see her point too. Gosh, so many feelings y’all. I don’t even know. Also, Taryn is horrible. How could a twin sister be so horrible? I saw her deceitfulness from the beginning. When Jude was told someone she trusted betrayed her, I knew it was her. Not just the Ghost.

Giving all of my feels and the way I stayed up until 2am thinking of this book, it is worthy of 5 stars. You’re redeemed The Folk of the Air. Considering my love-hate relationship with The Cruel Prince.

Rating: 5/5
